Christmas

Ack! I will surely be glad when Christmas gets here because this "preparation" is making me crazy. Every time I think I'm done, something else comes along and pokes me.

I've just spent the last 20 minutes trying to set up a new bill payee online, only to be told it didn't work. I've changed my access code, added a security number, and still it won't let me add this bill, even though it comes up on my list of acceptable additions.

Now I need to do some baking. I'm making a pistachio cheesecake for Christmas Eve, and it can be made ahead of time, so that's what I will do. But first I need to blog a few more books on eH. I'm waaaaaay behind, and I've got something like 125 to catch up on before the end of the year. *sigh*

Jo and her girls came over yesterday afternoon, and we spent a couple of hours doing our nails. I now have flowers and snowflakes on all my deep pink fingertips. They look kind of cute, but I don't think they're going to stay on too long. Oh well, it was fun.

I bought a new outfit for Christmas! The first surprise was when the size 12 pants were too big! The second surprise was when the size 10 pants actually fit, and Hardy gave me a compliment on how the outfit looked on me. The top is royal blue with a few tiny pleats at the front of the rounded neckline, and a tiny black button at the top of each pleat. The third surprise was when I went to pay for it. The top was 50% off the regular price, and the pants were 30% off. Normally, I hate surprises, but these kinds of surprises I can handle. Every day even. . .

I probably won't be back here until after Christmas because I don't have any more PHS books to blog right now.

Have a good one!

Books, Weddings, and Mother-in-laws

I just finished reading Donna A's new book. It is great! Different from her others, but still just as well written. I'll be blogging about it later, either tonight or tomorrow.

We took my mil to a wedding in Calgary this past week-end. Left Fri. a.m. and came home yesterday evening. She's 86, has two bad knees, and is about 60 lbs overweight. We ended up going back for her sweater, which she swore she couldn't live without -- luckily we were only about 1/2 a mile from home. Then about an hour down the road she started fussing because she just remembered that she'd left her lunch at home in the frig. We had plenty, but would she eat it -- no. I'm sorry, but one hour into a 9 hour trip I'm not turning around for a few sandwiches! The morning of the wedding she couldn't find her rings. Then she couldn't find her bottom teeth, and then she couldn't find her purse. My husband finally found her purse under her bed, and in it were her teeth and her rings. Don't even ask how often she left her cane hanging somewhere and I had to go searching for it.

Needless to say, I was exhausted by the time we got home. Don't get me wrong, I love her dearly, but she's starting to lose it, and we're the ones who have to find it -- if you know what I mean. She won't even consider going into a senior's complex. And I can't see it getting any better any time soon, either.

Ah well, I'll be like that some day, and my kids will be saying the same things about me. . . :-)

Quite The Day

Today has been quite a day so far. We finished gyproc-ing the arch between the kitchen and diningroom at our daughter's house. Now instead of two separate rooms with a doorway, she has one large room with an arch. It looks real good! Then our son came over and helped us catch the cat that's been living in our garage for the last two weeks. That was fun! Not!

I have to clean my house and bake something yet today as I'm having company on Tues. and I won't be home either Mon. or Tues. all day.

My First Post

I'm not sure where this post is going to end up, so if you find it in the wrong place, please forgive me.

It's Friday, Nov. 14/2008 and I'm trying something new.

I've just signed on to review books. I'm rather excited about it, but getting started is scary, to say the least. Are people going to like what I write? Am I going to like the books I'm asked to review? I truly hope so, as reading is my first passion (after my husband, of course)
